Kat who blogs here as The Crescat came over to Belmont Abbey this morning to see why my head is so bald. It is because I am always Standing on My Head of course. Kat's blog is a great mixture of Catholic bling, cheerful sarcasm, Eastern Orthodox eye candy, pics of her dreamland Malta, nun pictures, manlace and all sorts of goodies. I will be forever grateful to her for inspiring the Vicar and Caitlin O'Rourke--both of those alter egos sprang fully formed into my mind after I saw their pictures on Kat's blog.
We had a fun, but short meeting discussing blogs and blogging and wondering lots of things about fellow bloggers....How much money does Fr. Z make blogging? Is his blog really about Latin Mass, haute cuisine or birdseed? Is Patrick Madrid the blogger to beat? Why should American Papist get all the hits? Why are all the Catholic blogs written by conservative Catholics? Are we just sad people with ego problems who can't think of anything better to do? Don't answer that!

you did indeed beat me to it.
Oh Wow!!! To see two of my favorite peeps together - what a treat!!
Father L. - I must tell you this little story. My pastor (who is completely and seriously computer challenged), told me he finally saw my blog. He did a search on something and my blog came up.
Anyway - to the good part. He said, "I really enjoy that Father Longenecker. His views are soooooo balanced!"
Now to the really, really great part. I calmly looked at him and said, "Ah yes, Father L. is a big fan of my blog."
Am I going to burn in hell for that????
All the best Catholic blogs are written by conservative Catholics because we know how to write better. ;-)
I know liberal Catholics with blogs, they just think we're all weird for actually talking about being Catholic. They are much more likely to talk about Wayne Dyer than BXVI.
Both of you in one place? And lightning didn't strike??? That is too much blog energy in one location; I think some law of physics must have been broken.
Fr. Longnecker, may I ask you a question?
I asked the folks over at BAC... but they gave me the cold kind of look and weren't very helpful.
Do you know if anyone has ever majored in Philosophy as an undergrad at BAC and then gone on to one of the 5 pontifical universities in Rome?
Thanks!
G.T.
P.S. Congratz on you two meeting! :)
Gregory. I don't know.
Good article in the Times, Father!
I don't consider myself a conservative or liberal Catholic blogger. I'm just a Catholic who blogs. And I am officially bat s**t crazy, per the authority of The Crescat.
Is Patrick Madrid the blogger to beat?
No.
Gregory,
I would recommend that you AVOID Belmont Abbey College and you go instead to the Catholic University of America and get a STB in Philosophy as that will insure that you can get into a Pontifical University in Rome. Your chances are much better with such a degree than a degree from Belmont Abbey. This is why you got such a cold look from the people at Belmont Abbey and why they were so unhelpful.
I think that the reason why there are so many conservative Catholic bloggers is that we're all young enough to know how to use a computer and the internet.

Fr. Longenecker, it was great to finally meet you! I know you won't probably recognize my name, but Charlie and I ran into you the night before the Advent reflection at BAC. He runs the blog Conversi Ad Deum Dominum and was so glad to meet you in person. Thank you again for the wonderful reflection and gracing Belmont Abbey with your prescence!
