Christian Street Preacher Thrown in Jail

This article reports the case of the British Evangelical who has been thrown in jail for saying that homosexuality is a sin. He was arrested by a homosexual 'Police Community Support Officer', and get this: he wasn't even preaching against homosexuality, but he commented privately to someone who asked that he did consider homosexuality to be a sin.

What is most troubling about the anti-Christian developments in Britain is just how fast and thick they are coming. A nurse who is fired for refusing to remove the cross she wears around her neck, rabid atheists threatening to arrest the pope, a Christian therapist fired and denied in appeal for discrimination, leading newspaper columnists writing about how 'over rated' religious freedom is...

What is really dumb about all this is that people don't seem to understand that a little dose of persecution is exactly what makes the church strong and pure. In some ways the best thing that could happen to the Catholic Church is for Pope Benedict to be led off to prison as soon as he lands in England. Likewise with the other forms of persecution.

What is most chilling about the present atheistic anti Christian campaign is the creepy names they will give their Gestapo. "Police Community Support Officer??!!" It is right out of some dystopian novel. Mark Shea comments on the English news here.

I've noticed that while presumably most Brits have read Orwell's 1984, they have no sense of irony about the use of euphemistic Newspeak names for positions and organizations. The most obvious example is NICE, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence.

While it is worrying, it is not going unnoticed - and I am convinced that the more of these cases that hit the headlines then the more people will see them for what they are: not just an erosion of a Christian's right to freedom of expression, but an erosion of ALL our rights to that freedom.

I'm not sure if it was on this particular case, but even Peter Tatchell of Outrage! has been reported as saying that cases like this do not help anybody. He suggests that while homosexuals may find such things offensive it would be unwise to try and silence them for fear that all discussion may ultimately be made impossible on a subject.

I've had to take a step or two back from time to time to check whether I'm hearing correctly, if I' m understanding the whole picture or whether I am just on the sidelines of society because I'm a devout Christian.
There are some unbelievable criticisms and bias against Christians in the UK. These being played out on an almost daily basis through incidents such as the ones you are mentioning on this blog Fr.
I am definitely feeling sidelined here in England, that's for sure! A Christian's freedom to just be a Christian is in danger of extermination by the channels in this society which say 'yay' or 'nay'.
Just listening to the drivel spouted by a so-called Catholic talk show host deriding Catholic Christian viewpoints is enough to make one cower in shame!!
I do believe that Christians are being persecuted here in England, however subtle the persecution may seem to be, it's alive and well and thriving.
I am in total agreement with you Fr. I do believe that Christians, and more specifically Catholic Christians (who really know their faith) will grow bolder, stronger and more courageous.

During the 1980's the British Labour party silenced its infamous 'loony left' element on matters such as the economy and foreign policy but their social agenda remained intact.

What if an Imam says homosexuality is a sin? This we have to see!

"whatever your groin is saying at the moment is factual, while 2000 years of Christian civilization is “subjective” and insubstantial."

I'm going to die of laughter.

This discrimination against Christians has now extended to the ballot box. We are effectively disfranchised by the grossly immoral policies of all three of the main parties, leaving us with only the minor parties to support, which in some cases are just as bad.
Vote Labour? For the party responsible for the vile anti-life legislation of the last 13 years?
Vote Conservative? For a party that will promote gay unions to the status of marriage?
Vote Liberal Democrat? For a party that proposes to legalise brothels and decriminalise prostitution?
Needless to say, none of them will do anything to restrict the operation of the Abortion Act (1967), much less abolish it.
Take it from me, one way or another the next five years are going to be hell on earth for the British people, and I don't mean just economically!

The country of Orwell and Shakespeare is going down the toilet fast.

I dislike both Communism and Facism, but I suspect more and more that our present danger is more from the the Left than it is from the Right.

The Left seem to run everything that influences our thoughts - schools, universities, the media, films etc.

Now the Left are deciding what we can believe and what we are allowed to talk about.

George Orwell, where are you??!!

Orwell believed in true tolerance, what Marcuse called ‘Repressive Tolerance’, according to which ideas that support traditional society and culture are repressive since traditional society itself is repressive, therefore tolerance of them is repressive. Liberating Tolerance, on the other hand, seeks to tolerate only those ideas that are liberating, and is intolerant towards ‘repressive’ ideas, and so is the moral stance. That is not my position, just explaining the ideology underlying their thought processes.
