Pro Life Catholic Speaker of the House of Representatives: John Boehner. At last Nancy Pelosi can 'spend more time with her family.'
This article reports on further gains by pro life politicians in Congress. This is a battle which will eventually be won simply by the fact that the pro life cause is in favor of life and the pro death cause is in favor of death. That which favors death will die. That which favors life will live. Simple.

Finally the wicked witch is dead...........
He gave a wonderful speech last night too...
The logic is beautiful in its simplicity.
Seen from a viewpoint outside of the US, American political life often begs the comparison to soap operas made in Holliwood, including the high pathos and the cheap thrills of the plot - minus the commercial breaks, of course.
In the last episode, Mr. B. and the Republicans promised to block and dismantle everything the President stood for.
Now that the election is over, let's see what happens next ... whether they will figure out who is Canute and who the tide and whether one will actually influence the other ... and how long the terms "never" and "always" will last in poitical life ...
PRAYERS to the newly elected- may they be faithful to what (an perhaps who ?) got them elected
Has Mr. Boehner recently taken a stand against the death penalty? I haven't found evidence of that on the Internet, but I assume that must be the case, if he indeed is a pro-life officeholder. The death penalty, like abortion, stops a beating heart.
If Mr. Boehner is taking a consistently pro-life position, we should all celebrate that. I hope he is. Anyone know for sure?
This webpage reports that John Boehner has voted in favor of measures that maintain the death penalty and make appeals for death penalty more difficult and has voted against changing death penalty to life imprisonment.

I think we can conclude that John Boehner is in favor of the death penalty.
Fr. L, thank you for your other posts today on the death penalty and the church's pro-life stance. I am saddened to hear that Mr. Boehner has not changed his position and is still sometimes in favor of the state killing people on purpose. In other words, I am sorry to hear that he is pro-life only some of the time, and pro-death at other times.
Well, at least we can hope that he votes to uphold and expand funding for programs such as the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) nutrition program. That would be a pro-life gesture a Catholic speaker of the House could certainly take a strong position on. That wouldn't mitigate his support for executions, but it would be something to support the culture of life (not to mention help ensure that poor mothers and their children have adequate food).
