It was the annual pro life chain in Greenville this afternoon.
Our Lady of the Rosary Parish and St Joseph's Catholic School had a great turnout
Theo and Elias Longenecker were there
and so was Maddy, who is a senior at St Joseph's Catholic School
You know, when contemplating the priesthood there are three profound things that always come into my mind as motivation:
ReplyDelete1) giving myself fully to God,
2) getting to wear the cassock, and
3) the great saturno hat.
I think I am not quite ready.
Awesome pictures.
ReplyDeleteThat hat and cassock, I am a total fan. How I wish all priests would wear them.
"Fr Longenecker won the cool Catholic hat competition"
ReplyDeleteWho were the other competitors?
When I saw the picture with the shades I thought maybe it was a publicity still from "Reservoir Dog-collars".
ReplyDeleteI have a dilemma.
ReplyDeleteIn those discussions you can end up having about abortion or homosexuality at parties, etc., when people find out you're Catholic, I try to be very charitable with interlocutors, but try to couch my arguments in Christian personalistic terms, the nature of the person, the conjugal act, etc., etc., rather than anything emotive, and never on the attack.
Yet, even then, at the end of it, I'm always left with the sense that the person's even more entrenched and determined to 'fight their corner' than before we began. That is, they seem more pro-choice or more pro-gay, etc., than when we started.
Don't placards and 'demos' merely 'smoke the hornets'?
I'm at a loss on this one. What do you think? Any advice?
Good question Paul. I think if all we did was stage demos and wave placards it would be vain. But as part of an overall campaign which includes a wide variety of initiatives and programs it has its place.
ReplyDeleteThanks for replying, Father.
ReplyDeleteIt struck me as I read it that, although we have SPUC here in England, it seems a more hostile environment altogether.
Sadly, there are far fewer 'initiatives and programs' to provide a context, and we're probably further down the slippery slope than the US, too...
