Ordinariate of the Chair of St Peter

Rocco Palmo has the best information on the establishment of the Anglican Ordinariate for the United States. Read about it here and an update here informs us that the US Ordinariate will include Canada.

  1. A technical question, if you please, Father. Mr. Palmo tells us that Anglican-Use clergy "may leave their dioceses and enter [the Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter]" if their bishops permit. As I read this statement (not, admittedly, being an expert on such matters), it seems to imply that the Ordinariate has not merely juridical equivalency with a diocese, but sacramental equivalency as well. Now, if this is the case, may I ask who is going to ordain new priests for the Ordinariate? Not the Ordinary, obviously, since that office doesn't have to be (and, at the moment, isn't) filled by a true bishop. Could it be the Archbishop of Houston, since the Ordinariate's sacramental church is located in his diocese?

  2. The Bishop of the diocese where the man will minister will be asked to celebrate the sacrament of ordination.

So if a man is to work in the Ordinariate within the diocese of, lets say, Newark, the Archbishop of Newark will ordain him.
