Occupy the World

Are you fed up with the greed of bankers, corporate giants, and stock market wheeler dealers? Would you like to protest publicly against the corruption of politicians, the violence of the military establishment and the wanton disregard for the poor?

Would you like to join a worldwide movement that lives a life that publicly subverts the establishment and endorses freedom from corruption, greed, violence and negativity of all sorts?

Would you like to grow a beard, wear sandals, put on cool, but trashy clothes and 'relate' to the poor? Would you like to do all this with a spirit of happiness and peace, develop a deep spirituality and also have a job for life?

Would you like to do all this in the heart of New York City--the capital of capitalism?

Fuhgeddabout OSW.  Join the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal.

  1. I'd skip the beard part (hate the things) but it sounds way better than joining the inland revenue graduate scheme and earning megabucks.

    Where do I sign on?

  3. I am laughing with joy over this most excellent post, Father! It is why I seek to be a Secular Franciscan (since I am married and where God needs to be here in my vocation to serve college students) - I seek to let go of the unnecessary and embrace the necessary.

It is so great to see you on Twitter, too.

  4. If only I were a boy. I would be there in a NY minute. (and that's not a sarcastic comment on ordaining women, I was serious).

  6. Father Longenecker,

What a beautiful blog and a great post about occupying the world. I used the post today to talk about how we are called to follow Jesus as Catholics. Today's gospel was a difficult one to hear for those of us that are trying to follow the path Jesus laid before us, and your post was a great way to say that we need to be more intentionally "Catholic", like the Fransiscan Friars of the Renewal are. God bless you and thanks to Amy Welborn for tweeting your blog and leading me to it this morning.

I'm not a Christian. Nonetheless, I find your dedication beautiful and your words inspiring. I wish you happiness.

  9. Awesome, They are SISTERS!

Well, at this point I'd have to join a secular order (on which I am praying for discernment on), but if every my husband were taken from me, then it is something I would consider.
